Smoke and Mirrors 1 is a stunning C-Type Lightjet Print on Fuji Crystal Archive Paper. This is Edition 7 of 7 with 2 Artist's Proofs.
Ellie has been working in the forests of the UK for the past seven years, producing work which explores the complex interrelationship between the landscape and the individual.
Smoke and Mirrors explores the complex relationship and connectedness of landscape and beauty, and introduces the notion that our understanding of the landscape is constructed.
Made in the most remote corners of The New Forest and Dartmoor, far away from the pathways often visited by the public, Smoke and Mirrors draws the viewer inside a tree-lined forest interior. In this space totally absent of light, the idea of the forest as a sinister and threatening space from children's fairytales becomes more present. Stepping deep inside this leafy enclave is like stepping into another world where the sensory experiences dominate and the notion of the forest representing the hidden world of the unconscious reigns.
