I felt a change in my own spirit once the Northeast doldrums lifted slightly and the daylight hours got longer, imagining flowers blooming out of my own body. Inspired by a quote from the Brave Girls Club, “If you can’t find any roses to stop and smell, then paint some, sew some, dream some up…there is always a way to find what we are seeking.” Each of my pieces begins with original photography and usually multiple images are used to form a piece. Beso is a fine art photograph, mounted in plexiglass. It is part of Allyson Monson's URBAN NATURE series which focuses on taking everyday life and making it accessible. These images are meant feel good and not be taken so seriously. One of the essential elements of her URBAN NATURE series is photographing street art. She finds layers in between the cracks, the paint and the stickers, that awakens her eye. What excites Allyson the most is when she revisits a site (which she does often) and discovers what she originally shot has changed. Often, through the passage of time, the very same "shot" has been either painted over, added to or simply faded and it can be seen in a different “light”.
