Peter Mendelson
"Boat Prow Series II, " Contemporary Nautical Photograph, 30" x 20"

2017

About the Item

This abstract nautical contemporary photograph by Peter Mendelson pictures a close-up view of a red boat prow. The image is shot from an angle that creates a triangular shape with a the red rim of the boat appearing to point upward. Streaks of white line the bottom two thirds of the boat vertically, with spots of shipped paint, indicating where the boat as spent a large amount of time in the water. At the very bottom, the white, rusted stand where the boat rests can be seen - so subtle that the photograph could almost be viewed as an abstract piece. The artist refers to this piece, saying, "On and off the docks," the artist says of this piece. "Whatever it takes to stay afloat." The print is made to order, please allow two to three weeks for printing and production. This photograph is available in varying sizes and an additional presentation option is that of Acrylic - please contact us to request an alternate size or style. This piece is also part of a Boat Prow Series. Please see images in image gallery to see all of them together and contact us with any questions. A New Englander in heart and soul, Peter Mendelson currently lives in Weston, Connecticut. After studying history at the University of Virginia and getting his law degree at the University of Pennsylvania, Peter moved to New York City to practice law, where he also started to gain an appreciation of urban architecture and street photography. Mostly self-taught, Peter further refined his vision through workshops conducted by various photographers, including Magnum photographer Alex Webb and Rebecca Norris Webb, landscape photographer Stephen Johnson, and NYC street photographer Phil Penman. Over time, he developed his particular style, using perspective, light, and color to capture the psychological power of urban and coastal spaces. Whether taken during his visit to the Neon Boneyard in Las Vegas, his explorations of Miami Beach and the Maine coast, or even during commutes to and from New York City, his photographs focus on those things that are often overlooked, but which reward their viewers when given a second, deeper look. Peter’s work can be seen in exhibits and galleries in New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
