About the Item
This contemporary landscape photograph by Peter Mendelson captures a small, colorful and vibrant city in Italy. Red, yellow, and pink buildings with rooftop gardens, laundry hanging out to dry, and hotel pools can all be seen from this view of Positano. The buildings are stacked at a steep incline, built into the side of this coastal hill. To the left of the colorful structures, the more natural rocks can be seen, partially covered in lush greenery. "The sights and patterns of life along the coast," is how the photographer describes the scene. "Colors, tides and shadows blend with iconic motifs and experiences." Perfect for the lover of urban, architectural, or coastal work.
The print is made to order, please allow two to three weeks for printing and production. An additional presentation option is that of Acrylic - please contact us to request this style.
A New Englander in heart and soul, Peter Mendelson currently lives in Weston, Connecticut. After studying history at the University of Virginia and getting his law degree at the University of Pennsylvania, Peter moved to New York City to practice law, where he also started to gain an appreciation of urban architecture and street photography. Mostly self-taught, Peter further refined his vision through workshops conducted by various photographers, including Magnum photographer Alex Webb and Rebecca Norris Webb, landscape photographer Stephen Johnson, and NYC street photographer Phil Penman. Over time, he developed his particular style, using perspective, light, and color to capture the psychological power of urban and coastal spaces.
Whether taken during his visit to the Neon Boneyard in Las Vegas, his explorations of Miami Beach and the Maine coast, or even during commutes to and from New York City, his photographs focus on those things that are often overlooked, but which reward their viewers when given a second, deeper look.
Peter’s work can be seen in exhibits and galleries in New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

- Earth Remains #45Located in Sante Fe, NMThis photograph is representative of two related series of mine that deal with humanity's impact on and relationship with the earth. This relationship is not sustainable. Lately, I have begun to dream of our tortured earth with the remains of our hubris drifting through space, mined to extinction. This work is an attempt to tear through the ugliness of the world we have made, through the blindness of our voracious appetite to the vastness beyond, where beauty cares not for our perception of it.
