This photograph is from Stephen Mallon's series of photographs: "Next Stop Atlantic" which captures the retirement of a New York City Subway car to the depths of the Atlantic Ocean. For a period of over 10 year the MTA engaged in an environmental initiative to create artificial reefs from decommissioned subway cars. In this photograph, stacks of subway cars atop a marine crane barge make their way to their drop point in the Atlantic Ocean. Stephen Mallon's photographs have been featured in numerous publications and media including: The New York Times, New York Times Magazine, New York Magazine, Vanity Fair, NBC, CBS, Resource Magazine and Wired.
