He first gained attention for his sepia-toned silver prints of elegant, meticulously composed still lifes. His more recent color work, all captured on film with natural light, maintains the same intimate and simple beauty. His subject matter is often quotidian but far from mundane. Throughout his career, Halliday has consistently maintained his commitment to capturing the inherent beauty and character in everyday objects and scenes through his unique artistic vision. The artist was born in Glen Cove, New York in 1958 and spent his formative years in Ridgefield, Connecticut. It was at the Wooster Community Art Center in Danbury, Connecticut where he was first introduced to the visual arts. He attended Syracuse University and later pursued further studies with Arnold Newman, Jane Tuckerman, and Robert Hennessey. Their influences and encouragement inspired in Halliday a lifelong passion for photography. Halliday’s work has been included in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Museum exhibitions include the San Antonia Museum of Art, the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans, Jacksonville Museum of Contemporary Art, Center for the Arts Virginia Tech, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. His work has been represented in galleries throughout the US. Halliday’s photographs are included in numerous public and private collections including the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and the New Britain Museum of Art. He currently lives and works in Schodack Landing, New York, in the northern Hudson Valley.
