About the Item

First light skims across the pavement of a Manhattan basketball court. The intense gaze of a dog at attention punctuates a complex interplay of shadows and surface detail of lines and cracks. One recalls the Magic Realism illustrations of Robert Vickrey. Yet Mitchell Funk is a photographer who demonstrates his embrace of patterning and flatness which reminiscent of the work of Al Held. Mitchell Funk is a pioneer of " Color Photography" In 1970 he participated in one of the first " Color Photography" shows at a major museum. Brooklyn Museum, show "Images en Couleur" . 1971 Included he was included in the visionary book "Frontiers of Photography" Time-Life. Color! American Photography Transformed. Amon Carter Museum.
