Slim Aarons
Majorelle Garden, Marrakesh, Morocco - Limited Edition Estate Stamped C-Print

About the Item

Majorelle Garden, Marrakesh is a Limited Edition Estate Stamped Digital C-Type Print by 20th Century American Photographer Slim Aarons. 16" x 20" print. Limited Edition Estate Stamped C-Print. Edition of 150. Printed Later. Wearing a djellaba and a fez with yellow-ochre slippers, an older man stands in the Majorelle Garden in Marrakesh, Morocco, and shows a vast book to a woman who is wearing a vivid pink kaftan. Positioned on the far edge of the ornamental lily pool in the Majorelle Garden, surprisingly the pair is not the focal point of this photograph. Instead, Aarons focusses on the life-affirming mass of verdant foliage, leaves of every possible shape and form, all contoured by this powdery Klein blue architecture, gently touring the eye around the frame of the image of this Moroccan botanical garden. Only minimal spots of vivid colour are found in the floral potted plants. The heat of the Moroccan sun illuminates the scene, casting a warmth over the couple and us, the viewers. Viewers may know the Majorelle Garden through a contemporary lens after fashion designers Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Berge purchased the site, which had fallen into disrepair, in the 1980s. Through effort and dedication, Saint Laurent and Berge restored the Majorelle Garden to a new splendour, allowing it to be enjoyed by millions today. Originally photographed around 1969. The print will be printed at the time of order. This print available up to 30" x 40". Lead times are expected around 5 working days. Currency fluctuations may cause the price to change. This is a contemporary print from the Getty Archive using Slim Aarons negatives. All prints feature a Slim Aarons blindstamp, and are accompanied by a Slim Aarons Certificate of Authentication issued by Getty.
