About the Item

'5.4.15_3:50:51' 2017 by New York, contemporary camera artist Susan Wides. Dye sublimation aluminum, Ed. of 5 60 x 40 in. / Frame: 60.75 x 41 in. This color photograph features a close-up view of a cherry blossom tree in a dark grey frame. Using state-of-the-art technology, the dye sublimation enhances the image with HD clarity and without glare. Wides made this photograph close to home in the Kaaterskill Clove of the Catskill Mountains. After scouting for spectacular light, waters’ flux, precise leaf color, and geology, Wides constructs sets for her photographs by streams and rocks in the forests throughout the changing seasons. On-site, her process is one of call–and–response, as she works with the focus levels of her camera lens, the depth of her constructed set, and spatial imagination. It is a single exposure. Other sizes, please inquire. NY photographer Susan Wides is best known for her color photographs of the urban built environment of NYC as well as scenic views and iconic places of the Hudson Valley landscape where she maintains a studio. Susan's photographs convey the experience of not merely being in a place, but of immersing oneself deeply in nature, almost as a sensory experience. She creates a unique visualization of a site using a language of the lens both with her approach to the subjects of her investigations and the methods of selective focus she has innovated and evolved since the 1980's. Wides's work has been exhibited widely throughout the US and Europe. Solo exhibitions include The Center for Creative Photography, Arizona; The Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art, New Paltz; The Hudson River Museum, Madelyn Jordon Fine Art, Scarsdale; Group exhibitions include the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; The High Museum of Art, and The Municipal Art Society. Susan Wides is the Director and Curator of ‘T’ Space, a nonprofit gallery dedicated to the cross-inspiration of art, poetry, architecture, and music in the woodlands of the Hudson Valley.
