Kristen McMenamy is an American model known for her unconventional androgynous appearance. She reinvented her look in the early 90s by having her hair cut short and her eyebrows shaved off. This image by Arthur Elgort uses her andorgynous figure and short hair to create a 1920s inspired image. The Model is sitting at a table, only wearing heels, as she is sipping from a champagne flute. her gaze is directed somewhere beyond the camera, seemingly not acknowledging its presence.
Although the viewer seems to intrude on a private scene, the Model's body language is posed as if she is asking the viewer to take a closer look.
The photographs of Arthur Elgort created a sensation in his 1971 debut in British Vogue. He brought a breath of fresh air into the world of fashion photography. His relaxed and easy snapshot style allowed his subjects to move freely in the frame. His young and pretty models wore less make-up, were more lively, and moved about casually in the natural light that he favored. His outdoor locations such as city streets, pools, and beaches came to characterize his style. Arthur quickly became one of the best-known and most emulated photographers. His style changed the face of fashion photography.
