9 x 12 inch images, matted at 16 x 20 inches, limited edition of 5, starting at $1,200 12 x 16 inch images matted at 20 x 24 inches, limited edition of 5, starting at $1,600 Each successive print in both editions increases by $100 Diana Bloomfield's photography looks and feels different than the majority of camera-based work today. Her labor-intensive tricolor gum bichromate technique, which requires precise registration and multiple layers of exposure to create each individual image, imbues her prints with a feeling of tactile object-hood. Her color palates range from muted earth tones, to bright flashes of yellows, greens, and blues, to delicate pastels and sepia tints. Documentary in spirit, and fluid in expression, the work feels like a gentle nod to the past in both process and subject matter. Bloomfield’s series "The Old Garden," features delicate images of various floral specimens from her own yard. Bloomfield's Artist Statement: For me, photographs are all about the past. Even when I photograph to make a statement about the present, or to comment on the future, the image itself-- the one I've just made simply by opening and closing a shutter-- is cemented in the past. When I look at photographs, no matter whose photographs they are, or when they were made, they inevitably conjure all sorts of memories. When I look at old photographs of my family, or even of myself, I am staring at tangible memories, often barely recognizing those people in the pictures looking back at me. And late at night, when I replay events that occurred earlier in my day, those events or conversations appear in my mind as a series of visual narratives, not all that clear or well-defined, and very much like half-remembered dreams. To help me create images that echo those visual vignettes, I often use pinhole or toy cameras. Unusual perspectives, long exposures, and a sense of movement and fluidity are inherent with these particular cameras. Consequently, I am better able to achieve those visual narratives of fugitive dreams and elusive memories. I choose to print in 19th century hand-applied printing processes. These antique printing techniques offer me creative freedom and infinite possibilities. They mesh well with my images, which are always interpretive. The repeated layerings and unintended mis-registration of the gum bichromate process, in particular, remove all the hard and clearly defined edges, resulting in softness and ambiguity-- much the way we see and remember . . .

    Located in Southampton, NY
This one of a kind photo arrangement on 100% rag paper by Candice CMC measures 39x32" the Framed size is approx. 46x40". Candice creates her donut portraits from her original photographs of donuts. No software program of any kind is used in creating the portrait, Candice goes through the arduous task of looking through her photos to select just the right images with the correct texture, color and highlights that are needed for each area of the portrait. Nowadays, so many people are using programs to create images, it's nice to know that this artist is using her artistic talent to create these intricate realistic portraits. The Photographic arrangements of Candice CMC receive an immediate response on the part of the viewer. We have included in this listing an image of Candice working in the studio and an image of some of the worldwide media attention she has received. The art consists of over 1000 extremely sharp images of donuts, Candice CMC uses the the donuts as her palate, the same as if she was creating the portrait with oil paints. Candice first photographs the donuts and then studies the characteristics of each so that she can arrange them according to their tones, colors, values and intensity to create the iconic portrait. She chooses the correct placement of just the right donut for each area of the artwork. The art was created to appear as a pop art image of hundreds of random donuts. The WOW factor comes when you go to look at the artwork through a camera and see the donuts small and the portrait appears. Collectors are amazed by the very realistic portrait when viewed through their phone and can't understand how it's done. At the gallery, collectors come in and see Candice CMC's donuts and say, we love donuts and then we tell them to take a picture of it with their phone and they hold up their phone and we immediately hear Oh wow! Candice has created iconic portraits of Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Loren, Alfred E. Neuman, Van Gogh, Superman, Joker Captain Jack...
