Conklin Lee Ten Years After, Sun Ra and Country Weather - 1968 Original Poster
Located in PARIS, FR
Original Poster from Lee Conklin. Lee Conklin is an artist best known for his psychedelic posters from the late 1960s and particularly for his iconic cover of Santana's first album. At the time, photography was the basis of advertising, while psychedelic graphics were done by hand and were mostly based on an illustration concept. The posters of this movement claim a new aesthetic: the flashy and warm colors, the shapes and moving typography and the density of the motif that invades the space translate the psychedelic vision, often associated with the taking of substances such as LSD. The psychedelic experience was evident in Ten Years After and Country Weather entangled in the branches of the island tree, but this was not a classic tree-of-life image. Fillmore West hung from the branches on spider web threads. Brotherhood of Light - Bill Graham, Tea Lautrec Litho...

'The Rain, Abstract in Ruby and Jade', sosaku-hanga, NMAO, Tokyo, LACMA, Benezit
Located in Santa Cruz, CA
Signed lower right outside of block, 'Hiroyuki Tajima' (Japanese, 1911-1984) and dated 1973 with limitation and number, '50-4', lower center and titled lower left, 'The Rain'. Paper dimensions: 19.75 x 12.5 inches An elegant abstract comprising overlapping forms in deep ruby, coral and jade. Engraver and printmaker, Hiroyuki Tajima was born in Tokyo in 1911 and graduated from Nihon University in 1932. In 1934, he graduated from the Tokyo School of Arts with a specialization in western-style painting. Tajima later studied fabric dyeing under Hirokawa Matsugoro (1889-1952) and woodblock printing with the Sosaku-Hanga artist, Nagase Yoshiro (1891-1978), a founder of the Japan Print Association (Hanga Kyokai). In 1946, inspired by Dada and Surrealism, Tajima joined Bijutsu Bunka Kyokai, a group dedicated to exploring and reviving the abstract and surrealist painting ideals that had been suppressed during WWII. Tajima exhibited widely and with success, including with Tokyo's Modern Art Association ( Prix du Nouveau Venu, 1962), the Japanese Engraving Association, the Contemporary Japanese Art Exhibition in Tokyo (1962), the Northwest International Print Exhibition (1962-1964) and the Tokyo International Print Biennale (1964). His work is held in the permanent collections of museums worldwide including the Portland Art Museum (Oregon), the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria (British Columbia), the Art Gallery of New South Wales (Australia), the Carnegie Museum of Art, the National Museum of Art, Osaka (NMAO) and the British Museum in London. A Furnished Room Howard Hodgkin, colorful abstract red green interior scene
Located in New York, NY
Abstract red, green and grey interior scene with lines, shapes and hand painted brushstroke texture. Colorful large scale work ideal for display in minimalist, modern and contemporary spaces. While British pop artists such as David Hockney and Patrick Caulfield numbered amongst Howard Hodgkin's circle of friends, Hodgkin's work is painterly, expressionist, and abstract. Paper 21.25 x 27.25 in. / 54 x 69 cm Softground etching and aquatint (from two plates) with hand coloring in watercolor (green and orange). Signed by the artist and dated 77 lower right in pencil; numbered lower left in pencil. This print was proofed by Daniel Levy and printed and hand-colored by Ken Farley at Claes Oldenburg’s studio in New York, which Petersburg Press was using at the time. 1977 heralded a breakthrough in Hodgkin’s prints showing an increase in emotional content and intensity. They are more fluid and lush due to an increased looseness of handling. They show a richness and a surface texture previously lacking – mainly due to the application of gouache or watercolor by hand but also to the more tonal techniques of aquatint and soft-ground etching with its chalk-like lines. This print amongst others of the period was prompted by a visit to Tulsa, Oklahoma and represents an interior scene. Catalogue Reference: Elizabeth Knowles...

Fine Art Prints for Sale — Animal Prints, Abstract Prints, Nude Prints and Other Prints

Decorating with fine art prints — whether they’re figurative prints, abstract prints or another variety — has always been a practical way of bringing a space to life as well as bringing works by an artist you love into your home.

Pursued in the 1960s and ’70s, largely by Pop artists drawn to its associations with mass production, advertising, packaging and seriality, as well as those challenging the primacy of the Abstract Expressionist brushstroke, printmaking was embraced in the 1980s by painters and conceptual artists ranging from David Salle and Elizabeth Murray to Adrian Piper and Sherrie Levine.

Printmaking is the transfer of an image from one surface to another. An artist takes a material like stone, metal, wood or wax, carves, incises, draws or otherwise marks it with an image, inks or paints it and then transfers the image to a piece of paper or other material.

Fine art prints are frequently confused with their more commercial counterparts. After all, our closest connection to the printed image is through mass-produced newspapers, magazines and books, and many people don’t realize that even though prints are editions, they start with an original image created by an artist with the intent of reproducing it in a small batch. Fine art prints are created in strictly limited editions — 20 or 30 or maybe 50 — and are always based on an image created specifically to be made into an edition.

Many people think of revered Dutch artist Rembrandt as a painter but may not know that he was a printmaker as well. His prints have been preserved in time along with the work of other celebrated printmakers such as Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí and Andy Warhol. These fine art prints are still highly sought after by collectors.

“It’s another tool in the artist’s toolbox, just like painting or sculpture or anything else that an artist uses in the service of mark making or expressing him- or herself,” says International Fine Print Dealers Association (IFPDA) vice president Betsy Senior, of New York’s Betsy Senior Fine Art, Inc.

Because artist’s editions tend to be more affordable and available than his or her unique works, they’re more accessible and can be a great opportunity to bring a variety of colors, textures and shapes into a space.

For tight corners, select small fine art prints as opposed to the oversized bold piece you’ll hang as a focal point in the dining area. But be careful not to choose something that is too big for your space. And feel free to lean into it if need be — not every work needs picture-hanging hooks. Leaning a larger fine art print against the wall behind a bookcase can add a stylish installation-type dynamic to your living room. (Read more about how to arrange wall art here.)
