Beatriz Milhazes is a Brazilian artist whose brilliant paintings and prints draw from local tradition. Brazilian Baroque colonial art, local craft practices, flora and textiles all flow in abundance and inform her visual lexicon. The present work was created on the occasion of the Safety Curtain project, presented at the Viennese Opera. The project is now in its 24th edition after beginning in 1998, and this year's iteration is the first time a Latino women is being represented on the opera stage.
