This artwork titled "La Joie de la thora (The Joy of the Thora)" is an original color etching on wove paper by Maroccan artist Guillame Azoulay, born 1949. It is signed , titled and numbered 17/300 in pencil by the artist. The image (plate mark) is 15.75 x 15.75 inches, sheet size is 22 x 26 inches, It is in excellent condition. About the artist. Guillaume Azoulay was born in Casablanca, Morocco in 1949. Since age he went to many parts of the world, earning his way by painting and performing as an actor. In 1976 he arrived in the United States. In this short time span, Azoulay has worked to establish himself as an American etcher. He is a master of serigraph printing, but this print has more than technical excellence. It is a wonderful, rhythmic abstract composition. I believe Chemeche might have been a proponent of and/or influenced by the Pattern and Decoration Movement which was happening in New York in the 1970s and 1980s. The print has never been framed and is in very good condition. I will ship the print rolled in a heavyweight tube. George Chemeche was born in 1934 and studied at the Avni Art School in Tel Aviv and the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. The style with which he is intimately associated, pattern painting, The most serviceable definition is that pattern is the systematic repetition of a motif or motifs used to cover a surface uniformly. The spaces between motifs are either other motifs or are an integral part of the repeat. Usually, patterning intentionally acknowledges the decorative function of art, reconciling both the decorative and the meaningful. Roger Herman was born in Germany in 1947, where he began his studies at the Kunstakademie in Karlsruhe. In 1976, he was offered a fellowship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), which took him across the world to San Francisco. It was here, in California, that his career began to flourish.
