About the Item

This aquatint is hand-signed by Sam Francis (California, 1923- California, 1994) in pencil in the lower right and is a unique color trial proof aside from the edition of 30. Francis was always experimenting with color, and in his prints he chose each color carefully, making this composition particularly rare in his oeuvre, as it is not done in his characteristic bright colors of red, blue, or yellow. Instead we find muted shades of black and brown taking the shape of a worm like creature. Seeming to move about the paper, the image is full of life and free from any constraints. Catalogue Raisonné & COA: This work is fully documented and referenced in the below catalogue raisonnés and texts (copies will be enclosed as added documentation with the invoice accompanying the final sale of the work). 1.
