Damien Hirst
British artist Damien Hirst is widely considered the enfant terrible of contemporary art. He is the most prominent of the so-called Young British Artists, or YBAs, a group, largely composed of Hirst’s classmates at Goldsmiths, in London, that began exhibiting together in warehouses and factories after 1988 and is known for the use of unconventional materials and “shock tactics.”
In the 1990s, Hirst said, “I can’t wait to get into a position to make really bad art and get away with it.” And indeed, he is notorious for piquing critics and baffling the public with such pieces as his signature glass vitrines containing dead sheep or sharks in formaldehyde, and his diamond-encrusted skull, For the Love of God.
Working primarily in sculpture, Hirst takes after French modernist master Marcel Duchamp in his use of ready-made objects and materials, which he combines to ironic effect. He often creates in series, as with The Cure (Violet) and The Cure (Turquoise), both from 2014, which are among several pill paintings referencing Andy Warhol’s embrace of mass production. Belonging to his ongoing series of “spot” paintings, begun in the 1980s, the 2005 piece Xylene Cyanol Dye Solution is striking for its machinelike, industrial uniformity and almost childlike simplicity, a seeming rebuke to the idea of the artist-as-genius.
In addition to making art, Hirst has launched stores that sell editioned works (Other Criteria), a restaurant (Pharmacy2) and even his own London museum (Newport Street Gallery).

- Da CapoBy Larry Hill ArtLocated in Fresno, CA“I’ll find me a place by the river now and give up all my story lines.” – Van Morrison All of these paintings originated in the past year, but I suspect they truly began in 1955 after I returned from the army to complete my college education at Fresno State. Having discovered the heroic-scaled canvases of the abstract impressionists while away, I changed my major to art. Soon, after enrolling into a painting class taught by Darwin Musselman, I felt I’d be advancing from the old school to the new wave. Wrong. Musselman, an intense taskmaster, held me firm to the basics and taught me how to crawl first. The flying would come after I paid my dues. Musselman had studied at the Los Angeles Art Center and The School of Arts and Crafts in Oakland. Proficient in many styles of painting, he never shied away from demonstrating techniques he felt might spur a student’s progress. About the time I began to suspect he was controlling us all too tightly, he showed the class Hans Namath...Category

- Papillion -Limited Edition Giclée print on Archival Cotton Paper, Abstract, 2018Located in Bal Harbour, FLPapillion, 2018 Giclée print on Archival Cotton Paper. Acid and Lignin-free. The painting is a limited edition Giclée print, created using high-quality archival cotton paper, ensuring its longevity and preserving the intricate details of the artwork. The central image of the composition features a butterfly, but instead of traditional organic patterns, it is formed by a captivating arrangement of geometric figures. The butterfly serves as the focal point of the painting, capturing the viewer's attention with its bold and vibrant colors. Shades of fuchsia, blue, orange, green, white, black, yellow, and light blue interplay harmoniously, creating a visually striking and energetic composition. Upon closer inspection, one can discern that the butterfly's wings are constructed using a meticulous arrangement of various geometric shapes. As the viewer's gaze explores the painting, they may notice that within the composition, there are additional elements arranged in the form of eyes. These eyes, composed of circles of varying sizes and triangles, lend an intriguing depth and surreal quality to the artwork. They evoke a sense of introspection and invite contemplation about the interplay of perception and reality. Papillion, 2018 Giclée print on Archival Cotton Paper.
