Green monochrome appeared in Poliakoff's work from 1953 onwards, a theme he would develop well into his late period, notably with this astonishingly sensitive lithograph. Produced over the duration of the long partnership with Erker Press, the work challenges our perception of depth, created by the apposition of spaces, expressed according to a specific nuance that emanates from them.
Here, Poliakoff modulates colors on a fundamental tone, expressing himself through forms that are at once organic and geometric, fluid or rectilinear, conditioning the dynamism of the composition imposed by the tension and balance thus created. The dark and light hues derived from green, impose a neutrality of color, a restrained sensuality, rather in the reserve and contemplation of matter.
