Claude Allin Shepperson, (1867-1921), worked widely as a painter, book illustrator, etcher and lithographer. His work is characterised by a distinct elegance and his figures invariably display an air of aristocratic refinement. After C.A.Shepperson’s untimely death from pneumonia and pleurisy, his plates were printed under the directions of his executors until the intended editions of 75 impressions of each were completed. A monogram ‘CS’ was stamped by the artist’s executors on all such proofs. The plates were then destroyed. Many of his works are in permanent collections in museums.
