About

DIEGO RIVERA (Mexico 1886 – 1957) FRUITS OF LABOR, 1932 Lithograph, edition 100. Signed & numbered in pencil. Initialed and dated in the stone. Published by Weyhe Gallery, NY. Image 16 ½ x 11 3/4 inches. Good wide sheet, 28 1/2 x 15 inches. Rivera made only 10 lithographs, all in association with Weyhe Gallery in New York. The first group of 5 was done in Mexico in 1930. A second group of 5 was done in 1932. This image was in the second 1932 group. Very good condition save for a very slight rippling along the top & right sheet edge. A sight imperfection in lower portion of "g" in the signature, perhaps the result of a broken pencil? Just a slight hint of a mat line well outside the image in the margins. **Even white to the sheet, unlike photo** This image was derived from Rivera's important mural fresco in the Secretaria de Educacion Publico in Mexico City. Shortly after completing this series of prints, Rivera completed his work on the monumental mural in the Detroit Institute of Arts. The print series was completed before his ill- fated Rockefeller Center mural that was destroyed by the Rockefeller family because of its political content. THIS IS ONE OF RIVERA'S MOST IMPORTANT PRINTS !!
