LIEBESPAAR (LOVERS) ca.1923 (in Rifkind Collection, LACMA: From a portfolio of 10 prints. Rifkind indicates the edition of the portfolio is 85. Woodcut on thin Japan paper, signed in pencil and initialed in the block. With German dedication below the image. 17 ½” x 13 ¾”, full sheet with deckle edges 25 ½ x 18 inches. Generally good condition hint of window darkening. Minor soft creases.
Philippi was an Austrian painter and printmaker. Around 1920, he produced a group of large figurative woodcuts that were reflective of both German Expressionism and the figures of Egon Schiele.
