In Prayer is a splendid print in etching technique engraved by Federico Pastoris (1837-1884).
The state of preservation of the artwork is excellent.
The signature "Federico Pastoris dis. e inc.", on the lower left.
"C. Lorena imp.", on the lower right.
The title of the artwork "IN ORAZIONE", on the bottom center.
Federico Pastoris (1837-1884): He was born in May 1837 in Asti, to Paolo and Giulia Teresa Micheletti, daughter of Irene Lagrange, grandson of the famous mathematician. His grandfather Carlo Luigi Pastoris, heir of the ancient family from Cigliano (VC) which has numerous noble branches, obtained the elevation of the Casalrosso fiefdom to county on 10 July 1773.
Although his father wanted to direct him towards mathematics studies, in continuity with eminent members of his maternal family, Pastoris preferred to devote himself to painting, following the lessons of the Albertina Academy of Turin under the guidance of Enrico Gamba, from whom he took an interest in painting of history, orienting himself towards medieval subjects, as evidenced by the works with which he made his public debut at the exhibitions of the Turin Promoter of 1859 and 1860, A message of the fifteenth century and Allevante, a Florentine illuminator of the fifteenth century.
