Decorated in a vivid collage of quotes, images of careered achievements, and socially relevant messaging of our historic Vice-President Elect, Amy Smith’s new series of limited edition prints titled ‘Kamala Harris,’ are now available through Gallery 1202.
Born in Oakland, California, Harris began her career in the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office before taking up positions with San Francisco’s DA Office and eventually being elected to Attorney General for two terms. Additionally, she would become the second African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. Leading into her most recent achievement of Vice-President Elect status, she carries with her an influential legacy of progressive initiatives and social justice reform.
The portrait is superimposed on a background of high-key floral elements, reminiscent of Smiths’ earlier series of canvas-based floral works. Within each component characterizing Harris’ form in the image, one can better see the pieces popping personal history and influence of our soon-to-be second in command. This work not only celebrates the individual achievements of Kamala Harris but, through the use of color, projects a mood of both excitement and renewed optimism as we look toward the future.

Amy Smith
Amy Smith is a self-educated contemporary artist. Born in New Jersey, she moved to Los Angeles where she found inspiration, mentors, and support in the street art community.
In her “Collage Portrait Series,” Smith uses photography, and layers of hand cut stencils, and torn recycled fashion magazine pieces to simultaneously represent her love of fashion and her contempt for excessive consumerism. In addition, she showcases female portraits to empower and unify, creating a space to feel connected to oneself and to each other.
Smith’s mixed media collages have been shown at Wallspace, Saatchi’s The Other Art Fair, LA Art Fair to name a few and been part of auctions such as revered Julien’s Auctions with artists like Mr. Brainwash, Shepard Fairey, and Andy Warhol. Smith’s works can also be found on online galleries 1stDibs, Saatchi and Artsy.
Smith’s work has been featured in several private collections, residences, businesses, television shows and films. She is currently exploring a new series of collage with neon elements and a series of stencils on natural wood.
