Vibrant portrait of a woman in a blue hat with bright, bold colors by Nic Jonk (Dutch, 1928-1994). Print from the artist's Gallery & Sculpture Garden in Grootschermer, Holland. Displayed in a metal frame with no glass. Signed within print only. Image size: 28"H x 19.75"W.
Nicolaas (Nic) Jonk was a Dutch sculptor, graphic artist, painter and academy lecturer. He is mostly known for his sculptures of mythological scenes, women and animals, which are to be found throughout public space in the Netherlands and also in Belgium, Germany, Italy and the United States. From 1953 to 1956 he went to the State Academy of Fine Arts. After that he continued self-taught. He was a teacher at the Art Academy in Den Bosch. Also, he established Ateliers ’63, an independent art school, together with Wessel Couzijn and Mari Andriessen.
In 1965, the artist Nic Jonk began his own museum and sculpture garden in Grootschemer. 50 years later, it has expanded into a unique art scene where art and nature go hand in hand in an unparalleled manner. Nic Jonk is known for his plastic arts– round shaped sculptures cast in bronze. He was crazy about the female figure and his sculptures are inspired by predecessors such as Maillol, Renoir and Bourdelle.
