About the Item
Gentleman’s Game is a partnership of artists, Brandon Friend and Jason Douglas Griffin. In their signature technique, Friend and Griffin collaborate and create works by combining mixed-media that is unlike any other. Gentleman’s Game has a unique process of turn-based mark making that results in arresting pieces rich with depth and texture. This process employs various methodologies rooted in painting, printmaking, collage, drawing and image transfer. Each mark on the canvas, whether unintentional or deliberate, forces the painting into a new context that is non-linear and shifting. The emergence of recognizable images or gestures is intended to provoke a sense of familiarity that echoes throughout the works. Gentleman’s Game provides an aesthetic that explores themes in pop culture and mythology, which seamlessly fuses together a partnership built on individual approach, mutual respectively, trust, and fair play.
For their upcoming exhibition at Octavia, Gentleman’s Game has created this limited edition print, which will be sold with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the Isidore Newman School Arts Program.

- Cosmic VibrationsBy Alia AliLocated in New Orleans, LAArchival pigment print, mounted, UV laminated, frame upholstered by the artist Edition of 5 + 2 AP Alia Ali ( عاليه علي ) is a Yemeni-Bosnian-US multi-media artist. A child of migrant linguists, Ali has traveled to sixty-seven countries, lived in and between seven, and grown up among five languages. Her migrations have led her to process the world through interactive experiences and the belief that the damage of translation and interpretation of written language has dis-served particular communities, resulting in the threat of their exclusion, rather than a means of understanding. As an artist who exists on the borders of identifying as West Asian, Eastern European, a United States citizen, queer, culturally Muslim yet spiritually independent, her work explores cultural binaries, challenges culturally sanctioned oppression, and confronts conflicted notions of gender, politics, media, and citizenship. Working between photography, video, and installation, Ali’s work addresses the politicization of the body, histories of colonization, imperialism, sexism, and racism through projects that take pattern and textile as their primary motif. Textile, in particular, has been a constant in Ali’s practice. Her strong belief that textile is significant to all of us, reminds us that we are born into it, we sleep in it, we eat on it, we define ourselves by it, we shield ourselves with it, and eventually, we die in it. While it unites us, it also divides us physically and symbolically. Her work broadens into immersive installations utilizing light, pattern, and textile to move past language and offer an expansive, experiential understanding of self, culture, and nation. Alia Ali’s work has been featured in the Financial Times, Le Monde, Vogue Arabia...Category

Artist Biography - Kevans’ paintings reflect her interests in power, manipulation and the role of the individual in inherited belief systems. She looks at alternative histories and how they relate to current issues and creates what she describes as ‘anti-portraits’ that may or may not be based on real documentation. She believes that, as her work is concept driven, sometimes the actual similarity to the person depicted in the work is irrelevant. This can be seen in her 'Boys' series which is not about portraying dictators as they really looked as children but rather about the notion of the ‘innocent child’ which has influenced images of children in art...Category
