About the Item

John Scott Martin Going About Unique Linocut Prints Linocut on Collage Image Size: H 36cm x W 36.5cm x D 0.3cm Mounted Size: H 53cm x W 53.5cm x D 0.3cm Sold Unframed Going About is a unique linocut print on collage by John Scott Martin. The natural tones of the sails and rustic use of line gives the piece an earthy, calming quality. Having cut a series of lino blocks, I prepare collage backgrounds. I handprint onto the collages, which are made up of coloured, textured and decorative papers. Each collage background is different, therefore each print is an original. The mood and dynamics of an individual print can be changed by the use of collage. The printed results are then mounted and or framed. John was born in Nottinghamshire, studying painting and graphic design at Nottingham College of Art in the 1960’s. He now lives in rural Warwickshire, just about as far from the sea as you can get. This doesn’t stop him from making frequent trips to the sea. In his paintings he likes his ships and boats to move and this effects how he gathers his reference material. His primary source being an extensive library of his own photographic images. This is added to whenever possible, often with no time for a sketch, but always with time for the camera to record.

  • Sun on the Scafells, Limited Edition Linoprint, Lake District Art, Contemporary
    By Mark Pearce
    Located in Deddington, GB
Mark A Pearce Sun on the Scafells is a limited edition print by Mark A Pearce. Mark A Pearce handprinted linocuts available to buy online and in our art gallery with Wychwood Art. Mark Pearce grew up in Cumbria where he trained at Carlisle College of Art. Mark Pearce then studied at The Norwich School of Art and after a successful career as a graphic designer in London, Mark moved back to Cumbria in 2006. He works from his Ravenglass home, creating vibrant images using a variety of media: Painting with watercolour, gouache, pastels and oils, and as a printmaker his techniques include reduction lino/woodcuts, dry point, etching and carborundum printing. Mark A Pearce says, “It’s all about noticing things”. Here in Ravenglass the mountains almost reach the shore, and the three rivers meet to form a perfect estuary, so there is a huge variety of landscape to notice. I make pictures to share the excitement of a light effect, a composition or a colour combination. I particularly enjoy the discipline of multi colour printing; it forces me to think precisely about the nature of what I see and how to put it across. At school I spent most of my time in the art department. I then went on to do a one year foundation course at Carlisle College of Art. It was here that I learnt the art of printmaking and then continued my studies at the Norwich School of Art doing a degree in graphic design. Keen to move to London I found my first job as a graphic designer with John Nash and Friends and my second with Michael Peters and Partners. I went on to win a D&AD (Design and Art Directors Club of Great Britain) silver award for the very first greeting stamps issued by the Royal Mail. These featured smiles from the likes of Dennis the...
