Etude Du Corps Humain D'après Ingres, Lithograph

1984

About the Item

Etude Du Corps Humain D'après Ingres is a precious colored lithograph realized by Francis Bacon in 1984. Colored lithograph on Arches paper. Hand-signed by the artist on the lower right in pencil. Numbered in pencil on the lower left. Edition 144/180. Published by Galerie Lelong, Paris. Image dimensions: 62x26 cm. This contemporary lithograph was realized by Francis Bacon as a free interpretation inspired by the artist Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres. The 19th-century painter and draftsman was famous for the clarity of his lines and the meticulous depictions of surfaces often shown in all their imperfections. He was an important influence for Bacon, especially for the emphasis on studies as an integral part of the process of painting. In this artwork the curvaceous torso pays homage to Ingres’ delicate treatment of the human figure, as well as his depth use of studies in the process of painting. Reference: B. Sabatier, Francis Bacon. Oeuvre graphique - Graphic work. Catalogue raisonné, JSC Modern Art Gallery, Paris 2012, pp. 74-75. Francis Bacon (Dublin, 1909 – Madrid, 1992) was one of the major British artists of the Post-World War II perio., Francis Bacon is renowned for his paintings of single subjects represented in isolation – in empty rooms and cages, or against black walls – their faces and figures distorted in grotesque style. His works can be found in major collections all over the world. The artwork is located in France. An export certificate could be requested depending on destination of the item.
