    This striking hand colored stone lithograph of a "Alpomado Falcon" was created by John Cassin (1813-1869) and is Plate 1 in the "USPRR Exploration and Survey Report", published in Washington, DC in 1859. The 12 volume report was authorized and funded by the US government to determine the most practicable and economical route for a railroad from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean.
