Sedrick Huckaby
Sedrick Huckaby's large-scale paintings draw inspiration from his family history and his African-American roots. Born in Fort Worth, Texas, Huckaby received his BFA from Boston University in 1997 and his MFA from Yale University in 1999.
Huckaby has taught as a professor at Tarrant County College in Fort Worth and currently is a professor of water media at the University of Texas in Arlington. He has been honored as a Fellow at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, as a Kate Neal Kinley Memorial Fellow at the University of Illinois, and as a Brandeis Mortimer Hays Traveling Fellow, which gave him the opportunity to study the works of European masters abroad.
Huckaby’s own work has been included in exhibitions at the Studio Museum in Harlem and the Park Avenue Armory in Manhattan, at the African American Museum in Dallas, at the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts in Texas, and at the Hammonds House Museum in Atlanta. His work A Love Supreme, comprising pieces forming an 80-foot long painting of quilts created by his grandmother, celebrates both jazz and quiltmaking as central elements of African-American culture. It serves as a foundation for his Guggenheim Fellowship project: to explore and paint the tradition of quiltmaking around the United States, and to add some of those paintings to A Love Supreme to more fully realize his intention in that installation.
Huckaby's work is included in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City, the African American Museum in Dallas, and the Kansas African American Museum in Wichita. He is the recipient of the Louis Comfort Tiffany Award and the Imagination Celebration Spirit of the Future Award, among others.

- Mademoiselle SablonBy Albert de BellerocheLocated in Fairlawn, OHMademoiselle Sablon Lithograph, 1907 Unsigned Provenance: estate of the artist Reference: Belleroche No. 383 Edition: c. 15 Condition: excellent Image size: 18 1/2 x 19 inches Sheet size: 24 1/4 x 18 1/2 inches Albert Gustavus de Belleroche, also known as Albert Belleroche, (22 October 1864 – 14 July 1944) was a Welsh-born painter and lithographer, who lived most of his childhood and his adulthood in Paris and England. He began as a painter, but at the turn of the century focused on lithography, for which he is most well-known. He was awarded the Chevalier de l’Ordre de Leopold by King Albert I of Belgium in 1933. Early life Albert de Belleroche, Lithograph of the artist's mother, Mrs. Harry Vane Milbank, circa 1900 Albert Gustavus De Belleroche was born on 22 October 1864 in Swansea. His parents were Brusseler Alice and Edward Charles, the Marquis de Belleroche, who died when he was three years old. His mother was the daughter of Desire Baruch. In March 1871, she married Harry Vane Millbank, the son of MP Frederick Milbank. He grew up in Paris and London and he used the surname Milbank until he was 30 years of age. He attained the title of count from his father's family of French Huguenot ancestry. Career and personal life La Danseuse (model Lili Grenier), circa 1890 In 1882, Belleroche studied briefly at Carolus-Duran's art school in Paris, preferring to study the masters like Johannes Vermeer and Sandro Botticelli at museums. He was a friend and studio-mate of John Singer Sargent in Paris and London, with the men making many sketches and paintings of each other. Some of the works that Sargent made of Belleroche are suggestive of an emotional relationship between the men and Belleroche may have been the love of Sargent's life. Dorothy Moss, an art historian, states "Sargent's portraits of Belleroche, in their sensuality and intensity of emotion, push the boundaries of what was considered appropriate interaction between men at this period." Belleroche was financially independent and did not need or desire to obtain work through commissions. Instead, he chose who he would paint, which included Japanese wrestler...Category

- Plaster NO. 1 Magazine Hand Signed LUV Harland Miller Large Poster 2020 Fine ArtBy Harland MillerLocated in Draper, UTWith Josh Crumpler on the design and layout, the team sought to give issue its own stamp – “to really give a sense of who the artist is,” says Milo. In this sense, they wanted to distinguish how Harland was “very carefree” and how he had a “slightly punk” attitude on life, but also how his was was notably concise. “It was about bringing together those elements,” continues Milo. “He is pleased with how it came out so that was a big plus.” Upon deciding on the aesthetic and feel of the magazine, Milo goes on to explain how they pulled many cues from postmodernism. Especially that of mixed-media, and how, with Harland producing his own self-portrait to be included in the issue, they wanted to juxtapose the photograph with a handwritten Q&A. “Harland’s work merges a love of pop culture, abstract expressionism and wordplay,” says Milo, “so the combination of these styles really fit the mould and influenced the design of Plaster.” This conception effortlessly rings out from the magazine, with what Milo describes as “clashing Herb Lubalin...Category

NYC Chaim Gross,(1904 - 1991) was a sculptor, artist, and teacher, known for his wood carvings, sculptures of moving human figures, religious imagery, acrobats, mothers and children. Chaim was born on March 17, 1904 to a Jewish family in Austrian Galicia, in the village of Wolowa in the Carpathian Mountains. In 1911, his family moved to Kolomyia. During World War I, Russian forces invaded Austria-Hungary; amidst the turmoil, the Grosses fled Kolomyia. They returned when Austria retook the town in 1915, refugees of the war. When World War I ended, Gross and brother Avrom-Leib went to Budapest, where Gross attended the city's art academy and studied with painter Béla Uitz, though within a year a new regime under Miklos Horthy took over and attempted to expel all Jews and foreigners from the country. After being deported from Hungary, Gross began art studies at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna shortly before emigrating to New York City in 1921. In the U.S., Gross's studies continued at the Beaux-Arts Institute of Design, where he studied sculpture with Elie Nadelman and others, and at the Art Students League, with sculptor Robert Laurent. He also attended the Educational Alliance Art School, studying under Abbo Ostrowsky. In the late 1920s and early 1930s Gross exhibited at the Salons of America exhibitions at the Anderson Galleries and, beginning in 1928, at the Whitney Studio Club (the precursor to the Whitney Museum of American Art). In March 1932 Gross had his first solo exhibition at Gallery 144 in New York City. Also in 1932, Gross married Renee Nechin (1909-2005), and they had two children, Yehuda and Mimi (Mimi Gross is a New York-based artist, and was married to the artist Red Grooms from 1963-1976). In 1933, Gross joined the government's PWAP (Public Works of Art Project), which transitioned into the WPA (Works Progress Administration). Under these programs Gross taught and demonstrated art, made sculptures for schools and public colleges, and created works for Federal buildings including the Federal Trade Commission Building, and for the France Overseas and Finnish Buildings at the 1939 New York World's Fair. Gross was also recognized during these years with a silver medal at the 1937 Exposition universelle in Paris. Chaim Gross, Sculptor by Josef Vincent Lombardo, the first major book on Gross, came out in 1949 and included a catalogue raisonne of his sculpture. In the 1950s Gross began to make more bronze...Category
