About the Item

Szymon Oltarzewski was born in 1977 in Poland. Graduated in Environmental Engineering from the University of Opole, in 2003 he moved to Pietrasanta where he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara. Simultaneously he started to work with different artisans and foundries in the area, working with some of the greatest contemporary sculptors that shared their experiences and knowledge, giving to him the opportunity to work with them on the each fase of the sculpture artistic process. In 2009 he completed the first series of marble sculptures and, since then, he had five solo exhibitions and partecipated in many shows internationally, including museums, private galleries and fairs. The marble that come to light from large blocks is always the undisputed protagonist in Szymon Oltarzewski’s work. The work is part of “I’ll BE BACK SOON” sculptural project thought for the occasion of 200 years of Antonio Canova . This group of masterpieces among vast maestro’s production has a particular connection. All of them exalts the power of love, beauty and grace in infinitive ways. In Oltarzewski’s interpretation the sculpture is covered by heavy cotton fabric (entirely made in marble). Covered in the way like we usually do with our furnitures leaving our house for a long absence. The title of the series “I’LL BE BACK SOON” brings the hope that soon we’ll be able to uncover and rediscover the sentiments and emotions that maestro Canova immortalised in his masterpieces.

  • Nothing will work unless you do (Louvre, Abu Dhabi)
    Located in Milano, MI
In between picture and painting, Nicolò Quirico's works are photographic prints on a collage of vintage book pages.
Photographs are not printed on white paper as usual but on sheets of old books, so that fragments of sentences, sequences of short stories and opening words of novels overlap with architectural elements by creating not random references – though sometimes cryptic or mysterious – because the books were chosen by the author so to create a harmony with the subjects portrayed. This work compares the antiquity of a Greek statue with the new structure of the Louvre in Abu Dhabi
