This work of art is inspired by the tiny plant-like organisms called zooxanthellae live in the tissues of many animals including corals, anemones, jellyfish, sponges and foraminifera. These microscopic algae capture sunlight and convert it into energy just like plants to provide essential nutrients to the corals. As the sun moves through the sky, the green and purple lenses of Ryan Van Der Hout’s ‘Chromatica’ capture the light and cast colourful shadows. Van Der Hout’s powder-coated steel sculptures were inspired by their work as a professional photographer.
