2018

About the Item

This elegant glass wall sculpture was handmade by the Canadian artist Cheryl Wilson Smith. She layers and stacks paper thin fragments of ground glass called frit to create these curved pieces. Its warm white colour is reminiscent of winter’s ice and snow that covers the rugged landscape of her Northern Ontario town. “I strive to reflect nature’s graceful strength in my work.” Cheryl Wilson Smith She was the 2014 winner of the RBC Award for Glass through the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery. Wilson-Smith has received nine grants from the Ontario Arts Council and one from the Canada Council. Commissions include the Red Lake District Heritage Centre, Margaret Cochenor Memorial Hospital Donor wall. Her work has been exhibited widely across Canada, in the UK and the US.
