About the Item
A rectangular, steel outdoor sculpture in black is divided in parts, like a puzzle, the edges polished and reflective. This sculpture Water Writing V3, titled in French as Aquagraphie Variation No 2, is an eight foot work by Quebec artist Philippe Pallafray is an eight foot upright is mirrored in three reflective steel puddle shapes installed at its base. Inspired by the graphic design of river maps, the sculpture charts a course of the line written on the earth by the river, and reflection in steel within the natural environment.
14" x 52" steel base can be bolt into concrete or ground. Additional 4 polished steel water elements vary in size and are inserted into ground around the sculpture.
Philippe Pallafray is a member of the Sculptors Society of Canada. Born in France, he emigrated to Canada ten years ago and currently lives on Ile d’Orléans, Québec. He uses steel and stainless steel that he cuts, shapes, folds, and welds.
Pallafray likes to use geometric and curved forms in his sculptures to tame and play with light.
His sculptures have been exhibited in Canada and the United States, both as part of group and solo exhibitions. They are also part of public and private collections in Canada, France, and the United States. In 2016 he was artist-in-residence in Saint-Georges de Beauce, Québec, to create the sculpture Aquagraphie for Veilleux Park.

Philippe Pallafray
Philippe Pallafray is a member of the Sculptors Society of Canada. He worked for 15 years in fine arts in France before immigrating to Canada. In 2005, he established a studio on Île d'Orléans, Québec. Pallafray integrates polished stainless steel with natural and man-made materials to create provocative indoor and outdoor sculptures. His work is designed to represent the duality of nature and the industrial world.
“What is removed from the sculptures, the voluntary emptiness, recalls the ephemeral and fragile nature of life,” Pallafray has said.
Pallafray has exhibited in the U.S., France and Canada at the John B. Aird Gallery, the Artist Project Toronto, Alliance Française de Toronto and the McMichael Canadian Art Collection. In 2016, he was artist-in-residence at Saint-Georges de Beauce, where he was commissioned to create the sculpture Aquagraphie. Pallafray’s work is held in private and public collections in North America and France.
