Marc Weinstein
Marc Weinstein Mid Century Modern Brutalist Abstract Sunburst Metal Sculpture

circa mid 20th century

About the Item

A fine brutalist abstract sunburst three dimensional metal sculpture by American artist Marc Weinstein (20th/21st c). Weinstein began working for his father at Federal Salvage and Supply in St. Louis in 1957, he had a hard time seeing the scrap metal as mere junk to be sold for weight. He found interesting shapes and designs everywhere he looked. Weinstein began experimenting with different welding techniques after learning the basics from a local handyman. Welding brought Weinstein's artistic abilities to the surface and by the early 1960s, he was transforming scrap metal into works of art. This sunburst sculpture was created from individual salvage cut metal pieces with brass welds, and patinated with a torch. Unsigned, dating to the mid 20th century in very good condition, with great patina, minor imperfections, and wear commensurate with age and use. A back wire has been added for wall display. Dimensions: 23.25 in H x 24 in W x 5 in D. Ref: 172

    By Granville Beals
    Located in Los Angeles, CA
Inspired by dance and weightlessness, Granville Beals' industrial metal sculptures are primarily about relationships. Concerned with form and abstraction, he does not merely manipulate metals to defy the expectation of the medium forms, but explores the relationship between the human figure and the landscape, color and texture, and most importantly between people at an individual and social level. He established innovative ways to push the boundaries of his technique, creating modern abstract geometric designs inspired by contemporary art and architecture as well as organic forms expressing the unique vision for humanity in a modern world. This blue contemporary sculpture...
