Bending Normal - Marcus Manganni - Light Refracting Dichroic Acrylic Sculpture

2017

About

This piece is available for commission of a similar site specific sculpture at Buyer's choosing. Gallery and Artist will work with Buyer to create a similar piece to the one listed here. To purchase "Bending Normal" please see other listing on 1st Dibs for this sculpture. "Bending Normal" is a site specific public piece in Nashville, TN. Installed in accordance with seasonal sun patterns, Bending Normal is intrusive to its environment. Its reflection and refraction spread across the neighborhood and fellow institutions displaying the importance of color and perspective. With the rising and setting of the sun and with the audience’s changing viewpoint, a different reflection, refraction, and color is displayed. In "Bending Normal", Marcus Manganni has created a sculpture from cast acrylic, dichroic vinyl, and steel to create a piece that refracts light throughout the day. As the time of day changes and the seasons change, so does the refracted light. On one side of the piece, you see an elongated green light emanating outwards in the afternoon. A red glow angles out from this red light, and every once in a while a blue light will be cast on the building behind the piece. Bending Normal is secured deep in the ground by concrete and steel braces, and a structural engineer has signed off on the piece. This piece is site specific, but can be moved or another similar site specific piece can be commissioned.
