About the Item

Chronos is a bronze sculpture by contemporary artist Romain Langlois, dimensions are 64 × 66 × 50 cm (25.2 × 26 × 19.7 in). The sculpture is signed and numbered, it is part of a limited edition of 8 editions + 4 artist’s proofs, and comes with a certificate of authenticity. The colors are achieved through various patinas, and the textures are achieved during the casting process. To give the bronze this golden hue and light glints, the interior has been polished. With this sculpture, the artist leaves it up to the viewer to speculate as to what it might be. It might be a rock, whose heart appears to be fusing, or it could be an oyster, with its shape and patina revealing the priceless interior of a mother-of-pearl. Romain Langlois finds inspiration in the natural world. The artist's magnificent bronze work breathes new life into these stumps, rocks, and discarded branches. The copied nature is both formally and substantively transformed by the bronze patina: the forms are stretched and hollowed out, and a golden substance—achieved by polishing the bronze—springs from the object's center. We are witness to the creation of priceless objects, which causes us to disregard their humble beginnings.
