About the Item

Synthesis 2 is a sculpture by contemporary artist Tom Price. This sculpture is made of resin, tar, steel, acrylic and LED, dimensions are 125 × 50 × 50 cm (49.2 × 19.7 × 19.7 in). This artwork is available on commission. It will be created on the same basis as shown in the images and under the same conditions. Each piece is unique due to the creative process used. Tom Price experiments with chemical reactions in the 'Synthesis' series by forcing resin and tar to coexist while heating materials and using catalysis. Fissures, voids, and cracks form as the tar fragments inserted into the resin blocks widen, changing the resin's original appearance, colour, and properties. Now the two combine to form a brand-new element. Although the artist initiates and directs the creative process, he or she cannot fully control the chemical reactions, and the end result is constantly different and goes beyond his or her expectations. The artworks in the Synthesis series are awe-inspiringly beautiful, mysterious, and intriguing, capturing the admiration of the viewer for the forms in the details, the subtle colour variations, and the shifting light reflections. In some artworks, like this one, LED lights (via cable) emphasise this strong visual impact.
