About the Item

"El Set" Bronze Sculpture 71" x 22" x 22" inch by Maged Mikhail * Due to the Ministry of Culture policy + COVID situation, handling time (paperwork) may take up to 1-3 month. ARTIST BIO: Maged Mikhail was born in the Upper Egyptian city of Sohag in 1982. He studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cairo, to graduate in 2004 with a major in Monumental Sculpture. His apprenticeship with the renowned Artist, Adam Henein, for nearly six years after graduation, was a cornerstone in his artistic development. He then received the Ministry of Culture’s full production sponsorship in the period between 2008 and 2011. During that time, he worked with different materials, sculpting in plaster, bronze, and stone, as well as producing ink drawings on paper. To this day, he works with all these mediums. Mikhail’s work focuses on ancient civilizations and collective heritage and seeks to understand their connection with everyday contemporary life. This direction began to take shape in his work starting in 2013. By 2016 he had developed an approach to Ancient Egyptian art and found his way of transforming it into abstract and contemporary sculpture. His current influences are two main elements: Architecture (Ancient Egyptian, Coptic, and Islamic) and Hieroglyphic symbols. The influence of architecture can be seen in the clean, geometric lines of his compositions and also in his approach with monumental pieces of public art. The Hieroglyphics are integrated into Mikhail’s work as abstracted sculptural interpretations. A sculpture then becomes a word to be both reads and viewed as an image. 2004 Bachelor of Fine Arts, Cairo, Egypt 2005-2010 Studied Sculpture under Egyptian Artist Adam Henein 2008 -2011 Egyptian Ministry of Culture Scholarship Exhibitions 2020 Solo exhibition, Karim Francis Gallery, Cairo, Egypt 2017 Solo exhibition, Karim Francis Gallery, Cairo, Egypt 2017 Aswan International Sculpture Symposium, Aswan, Egypt 2016 General Exhibition, Ministry of Culture, Cairo, Egypt 2015 "Many Rivers to Cross" solo exhibition, Arttalks Gallery, Cairo, Egypt 2015 Aswan International Sculpture Symposium, Aswan, Egypt 2013 "I Am Egyptian" solo exhibition, Arttalks Gallery, Cairo, Egypt 2013 General Exhibition, Ministry of Culture, Cairo, Egypt 2011/12/13 - 20th/ 21st/ 22nd Youth Salon, Ministry of Culture, Cairo, Egypt 2010 Group Exhibition, Boushahri Gallery, Kuwait City, Kuwait 2009 "Continuity" Group Exhibition, Al Masar Gallery, Cairo, Egypt 2005 Aswan International Sculpture Symposium, Aswan, Egypt Acquisitions 2018 El Bahrain Museum, El Bahrain 2017 Open Air Museum, Aswan, Egypt 2016 Egyptian Museum Of Modern Art, Cairo, Egypt.
