It is a unique signed piece and it comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist. The sculpture is not fixed to a stand and the one in the photo is not included.
This sculpture is crafted from wood—a material the artist favors for its natural qualities, its texture, its scent, and the tactile pleasure it offers. He works exclusively with local woods, selecting each piece for its size, which determines its sculptural potential. Approaching this living material with deep respect, the artist shapes it according to his vision, yet allows the wood itself to guide him through its natural irregularities, knots, forms, and darkened areas.
Wouter van der Vlugt’s sculptures investigate the dialogue between form, light, and material through a play of solid masses and open spaces that create a sense of movement. His works bring together the elegant, organic shapes found in nature with more geometric, almost architectural structures. By carving deeply into the wood, he strives to reveal its inner essence, transforming a dense and weighty block into something unexpectedly light and airy.
Born in 1970, Dutch sculptor Wouter van der Vlugt lives and works in Luxembourg. Since the early 2000s, he has exhibited in galleries, fairs, and biennials across Europe. His pieces have been recognized by prestigious events celebrating craftsmanship and artistic excellence, including Révélations—the international fine craft and creation biennial at the Grand Palais (Paris) in 2017 and 2019—and the Homo Faber exhibition at the Giorgio Cini Foundation (Venice) in 2022.

Wouter van der Vlugt’s sculptures explore the relationship between form, light and material through an interplay of solids and voids that give them a sense of movement. In his work, the elegant, organic forms of nature coexist with more geometric, almost architectural structures. The sculptor’s work has been selected by leading events dedicated to excellence in craft and artistic creation: in 2017 and 2019 by Révélations, the international biennial of crafts and creation at the Grand Palais (Paris, France) and in 2022 for the Homo Faber exhibition at the Giorgio Cini Foundation (Venice, Italy). “I work a lot with emptiness, with the transparency of the pieces. I want to transform a solid block into something light, where light and shade can play, and where wood becomes movement.”

The artistic collaboration of Kelly Bugden + Van Wifvat has produced a thought-provoking body of sculptures, paintings, and constructions.
