About the Item
This wood and metal wall-sculpture is another in McGilvray's several depictions of heavenly bodies in the universe. In this artwork, a primary colored constellation is floating in a deep purple sky. The title itself harks back to a classic song from bygone days, Deep Purple Dream, which describes a particular and special time of night when the deep purple fallsand the mind is able to open up and become lost in a reverie. McGilvray recreates the mystic mood of the deep purple sky against which the bold shapes and colors of the constellation stand out sharply and boldly. A layer of wire is superimposed to further emphasize the lines and geometric shapes of the composition. Artist Camey McGilvray is a Los Angeles based artist who uses wood, wire and metal to create abstract, contemporary wall sculptures and freestanding sculptures. The work is purely imaginative and evocative rather than representational and relies on the shape and placement of the materials, as well as cast shadows, color and texture to convey the idea to the viewer. McGilvray was born and raised in New Jersey. She studied art at St. Lawrence University, The University of the Americas in Mexico City, and the New School and Art Students league in New York City, where she lived before settling in Los Angeles. Her work is included in private collections and exhibited nationally.
