Albert W. Wein
September Morning, Female Flower Form

1968

About the Item

Albert Wein is one of America's foremost sculptors of the Deco period through Abstraction. September Morn is a poetic work that was very singular in his oeuvre as he embraced a slightly Art Nouveau aesthetic of line and the subject matter of the famous painting by Paul Chabas called "September Morn." In the painting which became widely known by being reproduced, a young woman is bathing and feeling the chill of the morning she bends down slightly as she lowers herself toward the water - in a modest manner. Albert Wein loved approaching subject matter of any kind and seemed out mythology and literature and was probably taken by this image at the time. Wein embraced volumetric form so his figure is full in form to bring an interesting weight balance to the piece. It has a lovely green patina and he mounted the bronze to a wood mount that always the viewer to swivel the work as it is a piece that can very much be appreciated in the round.
