W.W. Hung
Indy Grab - athletic male figurative sculpture performing a skateboard trick

2015

About the Item

In exquisite detail, William Hung’s contemporary sculptures explore both human physicality and emotion, often capturing figures in motion. This dynamic piece features a male skateboarder caught performing a trick called ‘Indy Grab.’ The figure appears to ‘fly,’ to hover in mid-air—his body crouched and flexed, one arm on the board, another outstretched for balance. The halo-like wooden hoop perfectly frames the figure and the skateboard is represented as a flat, geometric form. "I have always admired the combination of effortless grace and incredible athleticism displayed by skateboarders — not to mention their grit and determination." WW Hung Hung studied architecture at the University of Waterloo where he earned a Bachelor of Environmental Studies and a Bachelor of Architecture in 1997. After graduation, Hung relocated to New York City and practiced architecture there and in Toronto for a number of years. In 2004, he became a member of the American Institute of Architects. He also began creating sculptural works in a unique combination of the figurative and the abstract. In 2015, Hung joined the Sculptors Society of Canada. Hung’s work is held in private collections in Canada, France and the US.

Diana is a goddess in Roman and Hellenistic religion, primarily considered a patroness of the countryside, hunters, crossroads, and the Moon. She is equated with the Greek goddess Artemis, and absorbed much of Artemis' mythology early in Roman history, including a birth on the island of Delos to parents Jupiter and Latona, and a twin brother, Apollo, though she had an independent origin in Italy...
