About

Bernard Henneuse - Sculptor Born in 1945, 14 years after his twin brothers Raymond and Michel Debiève, Bernard Henneuse was born into a working class family in northern France. As a child, he was fascinated by his brothers who drew, sculpted, sewed and embroidered constantly at home. As a teenager and a good student, he entered the Ecole Normale : it was a promotion for the family that encouraged him in this direction. Later, Bernard tried to express himself in more artistic fields : theatre first, then tapestry (Michel creating the boxes, Bernard and his wife, Annette, weaving them). In 1988, his life took a new direction : his taste for minerals, their colours, their mysteries, led him to become a jeweller. His fingers come loose, he finds the jubilation of manual work, its origins and fraternal influences. He then created, during almost 20 years, in his workshop in Anjou, precious jewels where mix turquoise, emeralds, tourmalines, opals and gold. Already asserts a very personal style, guided by the material, by the play of light between stones and metal. Annette joins the adventure, welcoming the many conquered clients. Bernard exhibits in Paris (Journées des Joailliers Créateurs, Salon Kara) and is the subject of publications in the press (Dreams and Elle magazines in particular). In 2005, the couple, thirsting for change, joined Brittany. Bernard, leaving the ankle for the hammer, set up his workshop there and forges the iron, pounds and tames the anvil. These are beautiful reunions with what Michel taught him in his early years. It is also a return to the origins of this northern steel industry. The forms are born, light and dancing, full of life and movement, preserving in them the fire that animated them. His works, mixing iron, copper, sometimes glass, are poetic and liberated, strong and lively at the same time. He has exhibited many times in Brittany (La Baule, St Marc sur Mer, Le Croisic), in Anjou (Symposium of sculptors in St Florent le Vieil) and continues each day to light the forge and to make the anvil ring.
