Bear Necessities

About the Item

Bear Necessities by Craig Campbell Expressionistic Wildlife Sculpture Bear and Boy 16 x 6 x 6" Bronze edition of 10 Jungle Buddies originated as clay sketches and were so delightful we just had to mold and cast them into bronze. As an artist, I have the ability to communicate through artworks, much like how others communicate verbally, musically, or in writing. I’m inspired to communicate in a positive, fun, whimsical manner to help spread the joy I feel in creating to those that would appreciate my works. A smile can be contagious! My work is meant to spread a bit of happiness in an often difficult world, and hopefully share a smile with all who engage with it ABOUT THE ARTIST: Craig Campbell began sculpting more than 25 years ago and received his BFA in sculpture from Wichita State University. To further his goal to create figurative and representational work, he began a rigorous program of self-study in the areas of human and animal anatomy, movement, character, and proportion. He has created work for both commercial clients and fine art galleries, and his work has been commissioned by zoos and theme companies, toy companies, and the film industry, including work for The Hobbit, Elysium and Mad Max. He was a featured artist in the HISTORY channel’s “Monument Guys” TV series. "Craig’s sculpture is primarily figurative, or animal related and often has a flair of whimsy. His focus is to express life through sculpture, and that he certainly does. To see him working is incredibly inspiring. We too often feel the need to travel to see such beautiful pieces of art or to look in our history only to find them on our door step actively working in our present day. What a gift to be able to be in the presence of a great artist. It does give you a sense of the wonderful and whimsical." -excerpt Vintage Revival

Larissa was born in Belogorsk, a small town in Russia and later moved to The Russian FarEast where she spent her early childhood. Her family moved to Moldova and finally settled in Dushanbe, capital of Tajikistan. At 19 Larissa went off on her own to study art in St Petersburg ( Leningrad ). “Larissa began sculpting in kindergarten from doughy black bread, the only material she could get her hands on. It was just after the war. Russia was still recovering from hard times. Despite the pain from hunger in her tummy, my sister would eat only the breads crust. From the doughy insides, she sculpted a dog, a cat, a tree, but mostly she sculpted the portraits of family members and they were quite recognisable. When Larissa was 12 years old, her artwork won a national competition for children. The picture depicted children of many nationalities dancing together and was chosen to be made into a national post stamp. The organisers of this competition came from Moscow and were determined to make sure that nobody had helped my sister. They couldn’t believe that little girl can draw like that” -Yakov Smagarinsky (brother) At 14 Larissa went to the Art College to study painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, perspective, geometry and literature in Dushanbe Art College where she obtained her diploma. Later she continued her education in St Petersburg where she received a Master Degree in architectural, decorative and monumental sculpture. Her first commissioned sculptures were carved oak based on Russian folklore...
