Ivan Zanoni
Buttercups hand-forged in iron

2025

About the Item

Forged Buttercups In Ivan Zanoni's hands, wrought iron seems to lose its own weight. Three buttercups—among the most fleeting of wildflowers—have been permanently preserved in the midst of blooming, their petals frozen in a moment that, in nature, would last only a few days. Hammered and shaped from raw metal, they now stand as a paradox made solid: the strength of iron holding the fragility of a flower in eternal suspension. Each sculpture rests on a wooden base, individually selected to complement the piece. Both the dimensions and the finish of the base can vary, allowing each piece to be adapted to different interiors and personal styles. This is at the heart of Zanoni's practice: a dialogue between opposing forces. Heat and cold. Strength and tenderness. The industrial and the organic. Each stem is crafted with a sculptor's eye for botanical accuracy and a blacksmith's mastery of the material, resulting in a piece that feels both monumental and impossibly delicate. About the Artist Born and raised in Caldes, in Italy's Trentino region, Ivan Zanoni is widely regarded as one of today's leading contemporary artists working in wrought iron. His craft is, in many ways, a family tradition: his father, Luciano Zanoni, was himself a celebrated blacksmith and sculptor, perhaps best known for a monumental four-meter olive tree commissioned by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in Seattle. Ivan has carried this legacy forward, developing his own distinct artistic language rooted in nature, observation, and the quiet drama of growing things. Zanoni accepts select commissions, provided they align with his core themes drawn from the natural world.
