About

Artist Statement

Each sculpture is based on a strong, initial concept that is deeply personal.
It is defined and focused through extensive writing. I take that initial concept and build upon it, creating a piece that is emotional, but subdued. The piece is built up, then slowly stripped of anything that isn’t necessary, revealing the primitive essence of the subject.

They are graphic, but not cold. They are simple, but truly complex.

The pieces are sculpted in hot wax over metal armature, then cast into bronze.

"This piece, "Pinot", is the latest work by Hansen. A nearly life-size horse head in bronze with a cherry red patina. The work was originally sculpted in wax so the piece has variations of textures creating a rich surface in the bronze, this is an edition of 9. The artist is known for her bronze sculptures across the United States and abroad with public works in De Moines and Taiwan. The artist is also in the collection of the Seven Bridges Museum and the World Food Prize Museum.
