About the Item

It is a powerful image. A pack of wolves actively pursue a buck. Canadian sculptor Ken Hall says his artistic process is ‘ignited by the natural world.' The five wolves running towards the deer are hand forged out of steel and welded; the buck image is cut from a large steel plate. Hall’s realistic work is designed to engage the viewer in contemplating the emotions evoked by our natural flight or fight response. What does it feel like to be the hunter or the hunted? The Hunt was awarded the prestigious Reed Cooper Bursary for Visual Arts and was originally produced as a limited edition of 5 works. In Hunt II, a limited edition of 10, the wolves have different running postures. The Deer sculpture is 96 H x 48 W. Each Wolf is approx. 36 H x 24 W x 48 L in. “I’m inspired by its (nature’s) beauty, its diversity, its rhythm. It has so much to teach us, reminding us that we are all connected and our actions have impact.” Ken Hall Born in Toronto, Hall took Mechanical Engineering and Fine Arts at the University of Waterloo. His artistic practice embraces a wide range of media including public sculpture and interactive digital artwork. Hall has completed numerous public commissions for both urban and rural centres in North America.
