Little Boy - 21st Century Contemporary Bronze Sculpture by Dutch Mieke Heitling

This little boy is ready for a swim.. . Made in bronze, number 2/6, on a smal natural stone pedestal. About the artist: For Mieke Heitling body language is a huge source of inspiration. Especially the moment when people think they are unconscious, they unknowingly see their true feelings through their body language. To be able to make such intense images you have to be able to open yourself to people and stay close to yourself. Mieke emphatically does not like consciously posed or pleasing poses. Characteristic of her sculptures are solid, monumental forms and powerful directions and planes. Whatever material the image is, it always has a rough touch and a pronounced signature. The tracks of chainsaw and chisels remain visible in wood; in bronze and clay you experience the power with which it has been modeled and therefore it has that characteristic, expressive skin. Mieke thinks it is wonderful to work in wood because it is a natural product. Such a tree has a whole life behind it and then she can give it a second life as a picture. Moreover, wood is actually so common that we almost no longer have an eye for it. And to make something special out of that ordinary is her dear to her heart. It is also nice that the volume of the image is already present at the moment you start it. That is sometimes difficult, because the process starts with a shovel and through the chainsaw it ends with smaller and smaller chisels and guts. Michelangelo said that you only needed to get rid of the excess (he did not say that you ultimately have more waste than image ...) For Mieke it is important that her images speak for themselves; she would rather not give a whole explanation of how we should interpret it. The spectator himself gets the space to project his own feelings and memories onto an image. As a result, the images enter into intense contact with the viewer. That is also the reason why the images do not get suggestive titles. Mieke followed her sculpture training at the Classical Academy in Groningen, she finds it fantastic to make contemporary art with these artisan, classical tools that is at the center of society. In June 2017 she did final exams at the Classic Academy. This 5-year course ended with an exhibition in the Martinikerk in Groningen.
