About the Item

Gail Folwell is a contemporary sculptor who holds a BFA from the University of Denver and has had an accomplished career in graphic design as well as extensive university and college teaching experience before she began sculpting full time. Her highly expressive bronze figurative work is full of inspiring energy and emotion. “Design and illustration are powerful tools”, which gave Folwell “a sound understanding of anatomy and body mechanics,” she says. She finds the human body, with all of it’s musculature, speed, and grace, beautiful and inspiring. Her design approach considers the practical, emotional and environmental elements of the public art experience. Folwell works in large and small scale, bronze, clay, or styrothane for public and private collections. She has exhibited with The National Academy of Design and The National Sculpture Society in New York, The Denver Art Museum in Denver, Colorado, and has completed monumental sculptural commissions for the National Hockey League, University of South Alabama, Vail Valley Foundation, Bowling Green State University, The city of Frisco in Texas, the Gerald Ford Amphitheater, and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

  • Female Figure 2/3
    By Sharon Loper
    Located in Napa, CA
Bronze, Edition of 3 Sharon Loper creates transitory sculptures out of bronze, stone, and wood and views her work as landscapes of thought based on organic principles. As a classically educated, third-generation Rodin sculptor, Loper’s work is elongated and expressive. She seeks to sculpt an emotional experience rather than a physical reality. An award-winning sculptor, photographer, and printmaker, Sharon Loper developed her sculptural practice through two decades of study, both at the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles and in private studio practice. At Otis, she worked with and learned from artists such as Charles White, Joseph Mugnaini...

  • Inner Core Sample Series X
    By Llisa Demetrios
    Located in Napa, CA
1999 - Comes w/ Base Llisa Demetrios has been a bronze sculptor for over twenty years. She often begins a series by making small wood maquettes and then fabricating in bronze in her studio. The Lunar Asparagus series and the Titan series, ranging in scale from 12 inches to 10 feet tall in both indoor and outdoor settings, are often made in pairs or trios, and incorporate the negative space between the sculptures, forming a virtual additional sculpture. In her Lunar Asparagus series, Demetrios drew inspiration from ancient obelisks and totemic emblems. She enjoys the idea of using modern welding skills with the traditional material of bronze. Demetrios has also had an ongoing interest in portraying time in sculpture, as in the textured layers of the earth in the Inner Core Sample...

  • Widows and Maidens #6
    By Sherry Owens
    Located in New Orleans, LA
Sherry Owens Windows and Maidens #6, 2019 Bronze, patina, crepe myrtle, dye, milk paint, wax 11 x 14 3/4 x 11 3/4 inches For over 30 years, sculptor Sherry Owens has used the sinewy crepe myrtle tree to tell her story of the Texas landscape, death, renewal, beauty, and of today’s growing environmental concerns. Remnants of personal stories, visions and observations in nature are the driving forces in her work. She believes that what we see and do in our daily lives leaves a mark on our planet. It is the direct impact of human activities on the natural world, which is visualized in her artistic practice. She creates connections with nature using crepe myrtle trees found along the side of the road. Each stick is hand-carved and cut to fit, then laid in place and secured with a small myrtle peg. What takes precedence in the laborious process is the importance of detail and evidence of the artist’s hand and her interaction with the materials. Sherry Owens is a native Texan, currently living and working in Dallas, TX. She received a BFA from Southern Methodist University. Recent Texas solo exhibitions include The Grace Museum; Cris Worley Fine Arts; Martin Museum of Art; Art Museum of Southeast Texas; and a two-person site-specific installation at the Umlauf Sculpture Garden & Museum. She was also included in recent exhibitions at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art, TX and the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, LA. She has exhibited internationally in Austria, Denmark, Germany, Greece, India, Japan, Peru, and Turkey. Her work is currently on view in the Ground Zero 360 Remembrance Exhibition at the Museum of Biblical Art...
