Jolanta Owidzka
Margaret VIII, Mid-Century Abstract Woven Tapestry, Textile Wall Sculpture

1977

About the Item

Margaret VIII, flax, sisal and wool, 57" x 39", 1977. This Mid-Century Modern abstract woven tapestry was done by Postwar and Contemporary Polish textile artist, Jolanta Owidzka (1927-2020, Radom, Poland). Statement: "The atmosphere of intermingling in contemporary art of various techniques has created perfect conditions for the development of installations, assemblages, soft sculpture, environment and multiple objects created in connection with fiber and interlacing. However, my main interest in fabric, namely: its role in architecture and the logic of the weaving workshop meant that the bulk of my work was dedicated not to exhibitions, but to specific architectural spaces. Organizing by scale, proportions, color, value and rhythm of elements is the destiny most passionate of this wonderful field of art. The magic enchanted in the fabric has a fundamental impact on the acoustics, creates an atmosphere, gives the interior a rank."
