About

"Efflorescence mirabile" is one of several 'portals' from a menagerie of biologically inspired works by Robin Cass. Succulent-like growths with reflective orbs, all rendered in glass, bloom against an iridescent glass backdrop and exist captured inside a blown glass dome and heavy rusted industrial flange with green oxidized hardware. Handmade, painted, and fabricated glass, with silver, steel, brass, rubber, and felt make up this wall-hung sculpture. It measures 12.875 inches in diameter by 7.125 inches deep. Robin Cass lives in Rochester, New York, where she is a full professor in the Glass Program at the Rochester Institute of Technology. She earned her BFA at the Rhode Island School of Design and her MFA from Alfred University. Several public and private collections include her work, such as the Museum of American Glass in New Jersey, Tacoma Museum of Glass in Washington State, and Tittot Museum in Taipei, Taiwan.
